AfricansGoneNatural is a natural hair movement that was created two and a half years ago in 2015, in an effort to help women worldwide to embrace their natural hair and beauty. We started our initiative with the mission to help empower women with the information they need to help them become confident in rocking their natural hair and embracing their natural beauty. We have grown tremendously within this time and last fall, we launched our very our Natural Hair and Skin product line @AFRIKINKY.
Our mission and vision is to help other African Companies and Women strive for success collaboratively. Each year, we hold a campaign that we take great pride in which helps to celebrate our rich culture and beauty. We launched our first annual Afrikinky Rep Your country contest two years ago in an effort to give our fellow beautiful African sisters and women of African descent the opportunity to embrace their natural beauty and display and showcase their country. This is done by submitting headshot photos of themselves representing the country of their choice.
Each diva from each country entered with the most votes is the winner for that country and then they receive gifts from our amazing sponsors who offer their services for free. Our full list of sponsors include: natural hair brands, professional photographers, as well as natural hair salons from several African nations, who are all willing to help by giving free products, free photography sessions and a full natural hair makeover to potential winners in their countries. This year we had over 60 women submit pictures to represent 16 different African countries. We just announced the winners for the 2018 Contest. Our goal is to expand this contest even more next year and get more countries to join in on the fun. The feedback has been amazing as we have helped women who normally wouldn’t have stepped out of their comfort zone to walk into what it takes to be bold and confident in who they are as a Queen.
Ghana took the Afrikinky Crown by winning the picture with the most likes in the overall contest. Myma Twum-Barima @yaa-asiedua was the winner for Ghana and Ghana now holds the title for the Afrikinky Crown Diva.”
That is what our mission is all about at AfricansGoneNatural; being proud of who you are and in the skin you are in. We have even had the testimony of one young woman who felt like she had nothing to live for until we encouraged her to join our competition in the past and now she is very confident with herself and takes pride in who she is.
